U.S. Border Patrol agents foiled the smuggling attempt of 16 migrants, authorities said.
On Jan. 24, agents at the Interstate 35 checkpoint referred a tractor-trailer to secondary inspection following a K-9 alert.
Further inspection of the 18-wheeler resulted in the discovery of 16 migrants hiding in the sleeper area of the tractor.
Agents determined that the migrants were from Guatemala and Mexico. The driver and the migrants were taken into custody.
Border Patrol encourages the community to report suspicious activity by calling 1-800-343-1994.
