FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) — Interstate 95 in Cumberland County reopened Monday night hours after an accident involving a tractor-trailer hauling hogs overturned.
It happened at I-95 and I-295 on Monday afternoon.
While the hogs remained secured in the trailer after the crash, traffic was backed up for miles with the southbound lanes closed until about 7 p.m.
Prestige Farms said 180 hogs were on board when the crash happened. They were on their way to the Smithfield processing plant in Tar Heel to be slaughtered.
Veterinarians and medical technicians were at the crash site to determine which hogs could be saved. The official count remains unclear.
