NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. – About 1:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, January 11, 2023, reports along I-44 east at 2.8 MM of a tractor trailer crash alerted Newton County Central Dispatch and Missouri State Highway Patrol.
On scene we learn an eastbound tractor trailer was approaching the weigh station, made contact with another vehicle and the tractor trailer took a hard right going off-road, down a steep ravine, into the woods.

The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
Amazingly the tractor and trailer remained upright and the and load remained intact.
We are told the tractor trailer made contact with a second vehicle, a 10-wheeler truck. It remained on the highway in the crash. It was not on scene as we had arrived much later, it had already been towed.
Taken standing on shoulder of I-44 high above the crash at 2.8 MM eastbound.
MoDOT Emergency Response remained on scene until about 8:15 p.m. as the crash was moved further into the woods for tow.
Santa Fe Towing removed the crashed tractor trailer by taking it south through the wooded area to nearby Cedar Drive, so traffic into Missouri along I-44 east was affected only a short time right after the crash.
