With elections over and done with, Congress is now sitting in a lame duck session. Iowa 4th District Congressman Randy Feenstra said they’re trying to get some legislation to move along before the end of the year.
Recently, the EPA announced proposals for volumes and percentage standards in the Renewable Fuel Standard. Feenstra said there were good and bad things to take away from that announcement.
It’s time now, though, that we start to take a bigger focus on biofuels. Feenstra said that we saw the benefits of biofuels this past summer when gas prices soared.
Feenstra also recently joined Rep. GT Thompson (R-PA) – who is the top Republican on the House Agriculture Committee – and several of his Republican colleagues in demanding a full report on foreign ownership of American farmland from the Government Accountability Office.
With recent USDA studies showing the importance of family farms, Feenstra said it’s important to keep farmland in the hands of rural families.
