Poultry project to benchmark performance of smart controls – WATTAgNet Industry News & Trends

Agrimesh Technologies and the Smart Manufacturing & Advanced Recycling Technologies (SMART) Centre at Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning will collaborate to test the performance of smart controls to improve environmental management in poultry houses.
“We are focused on defendable value, environmental, social and governance (ESG) and continuous improvement,” Mark Maxwell, Agrimesh Technologies CEO, said. “The innovation program with Conestoga will help us validate these findings and solidify the model from a return on investment (ROI) perspective.”
The Agrimesh system, presented at the 2022 Poultry Tech Summit, uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze poultry house conditions and make real-time decisions to manage the environment to lower a poultry houses energy cost.
“In essence, it’s cloud-based computation power which optimizes the rooms we manage. We can manage CO2, temperature, humidity and ammonia. We can manage the fans, the inlets, the feed lines, the water,” explained Maxwell.
Instead of having to program a standard ventilation system, limits for each environmental variable are determined by the producer and entered into the technology’s settings, which enables the AI software to learn how each piece of equipment affects the temperature or humidity in the house.
The technology also evaluates the weather forecast and can react to how the outside environment will affect the house’s environment.
Preliminary research suggests that the smart controls can reduce poultry mortality and improve the feed conversion ratio (FCR), in addition to energy savings.
The project will begin on January 16, 2023 and is scheduled to last for 12 months.
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council’s (NSERC) Build Innovation Enhancement grant for Secure Digital Supply Chain projects provided funding for the pilot project.
Join an exclusive international gathering of industry-changing innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, technology experts, investors and leading poultry producers at the 2023 edition of Poultry Tech Summit on November 6-8 at the Hilton Atlanta Airport in Atlanta, Georgia.
Attendees can expect the same groundbreaking innovation and insightful presentations that made the previous events well-attended with deep dialogue on new prospective solutions and next-generation technologies. Poultry Tech Summit focuses on the transition of innovative technologies into commercial applications to advance the poultry industry.
Registration for this event will open in the spring of 2023.
