A cold Thursday night last week didn’t stop Iowa’s cattle industry leaders from gathering in Altoona for the Iowa Cattle Industry Leadership Summit. The event serves as a forum for industry leaders to gather and discuss a variety of topics, from government policy to animal health. Iowa Cattlemen’s Association CEO Matt Deppe said he’s always glad to see their grassroots membership get engaged in all of those topics.
Deppe said the end of the year is a perfect time to get everyone together to reflect on the past year and start looking towards the next.
As far as the 2023 Farm Bill goes, Deppe said they’re focused on keeping the programs that work intact while also giving them minor improvements.
After two years of struggles from COVID and other issues, Deppe said their current mindset is to just keep moving forward.
While making new changes can sometimes cause producers to become skeptical, Deppe said expanding the industry will provide benefits to every sector of the cattle industry.
Deppe added that any Iowa cattle producers can get involved by becoming members and actively participating in ICA events.
