After years of toiling and ensuring they had top quality produce, farming couple Nonhlanhla Mokoena-Chimhandamba and Simbarashe “Simba” Chimhandamba clinched a deal to supply South Africa’s biggest supermarket chain, Shoprite, with fresh produce.

The couple, which owns Urban Grown Organics, began their farming journey in 2015. And over the years, they have managed to grow their business through a combination of funding from private institutions and businesses.
Mokoena-Chimhandamba explains that a stint at Nestle’s nutrition department, where she was a brand manager for child nutrition, sparked her interest in food security and led to the start of Urban Grown.
