DSM Animal Nutrition and Health has announced FUMzyme, its first FDA-approved purified enzyme designed to degrade fumonisins into non-toxic metabolites.FUMzyme has entered the poultry and swine feed market as a mycotoxin risk management tool that can mitigate toxin levels in corn.
“With each year’s crop we see variation in mycotoxin contamination patterns,” says DSM’s mycotoxin and Hy-D category manager Paige Gott.
Fumonisin, the fungus that causes mycotoxin, continues to be prevalent across the United States. Since 2014, swine and poultry producers have detected about 80% of mycotoxins in their corn samples, according to a producer survey conducted by DSM.
“Because of the various negative outcomes on livestock health and performance associated with mycotoxins, it’s important for producers to take proactive steps to mitigate mycotoxins on-farm,” says Gott.
FUMzyme is part of DSM’s Biofix product portfolio. The two new products, Biofix Plus with FUMzyme and Biofix Select with FUMzyme, have been on market since November for both swine and poultry producers.
