Darleen Halwick killed when car hits back of tractor trailer on Thruway, troopers said – Times Union

NEW PALTZ — A 63-year-old Hurley woman died after her car hit the back of a tractor-trailer late Saturday night on the Thruway, State Police said.
The driver of the truck, a 43-year-old man from Kearney, N.J., told investigators he believed the impact was a flat tire, troopers said. He pulled to the shoulder and discovered a Toyota Avalon lodged under the rear of the truck, State Police said. The vehicle was severely damaged.
Troopers said the driver, Darleen B. Halwick, died at the scene. 
The crash occurred at 11:30 p.m. between Exit 18 in New Paltz and Exit 19 in Kingston. The crash happened on the highway’s southbound side.
State Police are continuing to investigate the crash. So far, there is no word on whether any tickets were issued.
