Big Bend border security, cattle seminar set Oct. 19 – AgriLife Today

October 10, 2022

The Big Bend Border Security and Beef Cattle Seminar will be hosted Oct. 19 by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agents in Brewster-Jeff Davis, Presidio and Culberson counties. The free online event is sponsored by West of the Pecos Cattlewomen.
The webinar will be from 9-11 a.m. on Oct. 19. To register in advance, go to https://bit.ly/Border-Beef. More information on connecting to the program will be sent once the advance registration is received.
“With this virtual seminar, we would like to provide the opportunity for attendees to hear about security in terms of property and equipment, especially for those who reside closer to the border,” said Zach Schaefer, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent in Culberson County. ”However, the information is certainly applicable all across the state. The other portion of the seminar will cover livestock and offer essential information regarding beef cattle.”
Joining Schaefer in hosting the program are AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agents Luke Hendryx, Brewster-Jeff Davis counties, and Micki Harris, Presidio County.
The guest speakers and topics they will cover are:
— Border Security in Production Agriculture, Joey Aguilar, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association special ranger, Mission.
— Cow Size Relative to Efficiency: Bruce Carpenter, AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist, Ft. Stockton.
For more information, contact Schaefer at zach.schaefer@ag.tamu.edu, Hendryx at luke.hendryx@ag.tamu.edu or Harris at micki.harris@ag.tamu.edu.
